Faith in various entities, whether they be religious or conspiratory, is mankind’s inarticulate way of describing or attempting to experience how it is to feel small. Heaven is a post-scarcity environment, UFOs have theoretically free boundless energy; visions of Utopia which seem to bypass people’s definition of socialism or even communism, but the acceleration of AI and its aspirations parallel these visions of Utopia – it will solve all our problems and answer all our questions. It is therefore easier to set aside concerns of material scarcity and other modern stresses by offloading those feelings to ChatGPT or other AI models which will supposedly just create this utopian society out of nothing and indirectly solve all the crises of capitalism. There is seemingly no in-between struggle, no potential friction in their narrative. We will just eliminate scarcity when AI is finished and then it’s done. Good job. This is ignoring the consideration that post-scarcity technology cannot really exist within the context of capitalism. We would “live” in a system of artificial scarcity and rentism. Much like we do now, but worse. So pirate your Adobe software.
The concept of psyops capitalism and realism, and the aesthetic experience of living among this intrinsically online world which is badly infected with manipulation, suspicion and a breakdown of consensus reality, is ostensibly a bizarre reality. I’d like my work to reflect what this experience of consciousness feels like, chaotic and counter-algorithmic in constant reaction to perpetually ticking algorithmic drone of transhuman society online. Overwhelming. There may be a necessity for unpredictability and extreme views now. Psyops capitalism, of which surveillance is a key aspect, really goes further to consider the manipulative psychological actions of those in power and with vast capital and how these are embedded in our systems and lives. How algorithms are constructed and manipulated. How they shape views, direct attention and analyse behavioural patterns.
I am driven insane watching the feed of neoliberalist utopian tech states developing, increasingly rapidly, an omniscient supercomputer dictatorial mecha God/Hitler, which will mathematically decide who starves to death each day based on algorithms constructed by tracking our facial movements, debit card activity and YouTube search history. I implore others to embrace such a schizoanalytical philosophy, explored by Deleuze and Guattari, as a method of creative anti-capitalist production and processing of information. With all of these implicit or explicit layers to our modern existence and consciousness, any research and reflection of this is bound to be surreal, absurd, post-satirical, confusing, extreme, erratic and/or meta-deconstructing.
